Mardi Himal Trek goes along a small winding path through the verdant and colorful forest of rhododendron until you climb out of the forest around the elevation of 3,300 meters.

The maximum elevation reached during the trek is 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp, from where we return the same day of reach. The altitude is moderate, and as we won’t be staying there for long, you won’t face any altitude hazards.

So, the Mardi Himal trek is doable as an independent trekker too. The whole trail has marks of blue and white flags, and you will obviously take a map as well, so the chances of getting lost are way too less.

Mardi Himal Trek Route

Although Mardi Himal Trek is of short duration, the journey is rather rewarding and surprising beyond your expectation. Located in Annapurna region, which offers the most treks, Mardi Himal trek is possible through different routes. So, let us look at some of the popular routes to Mardi Himal trek and what further destination it can be comprised with.

The Usual Route

As the heading suggests, it is the usual route to Mardi Himal trek. The trek typically starts form Kande, which is around one hour of drive from Pokhara. Other starting point is Hemja Milan Chowk or further up the Mardi River valley by jeep.

From Kande, we trek towards Deurali and to Forest Camp. Then comes Low Camp at 2,970 meters and High Camp at 3,540 meters. After High Camp, we scale towards the base camp of Mardi Himal. In between High Camp and Base Camp lies Upper Viewpoint at 4,250 meters and some trekkers return right after the viewpoint. 

After Viewpoint, comes base camp at 4,500 meters, our ultimate destination, and the same day, we return to High Camp.

Mardi Himal Poon Hill Trek

The short trek of Mardi Himal can be joined with Poon Hill trek, and it has become quite a favorite choice for trekkers who prefer trekking in the less crowded trail. Further, the trek connects with the Ghandruk village, a typical settlement dominated by Gurung ethnicity.

Mardi Himal Poon Hill trek starts with a drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, from where we trek towards Ghorepani and Poon Hill. We will scale to Poon Hill early in the morning to witness the spectacular view of sunrise amid the majestic mountain range and return Ghorepani, the very same day.

Now, we trek towards Deurali, back to the usual route towards Mardi Himal trek. It takes form 10-12 days.

Mardi Himal Via Annapurna Base Camp

Annapurna Base Camp is already one of the most popular treks in Nepal and about 10% of those who are trekking Annapurna Base Camp ventures into Mardi Himal Trek.

After we reach the base camp of Annapurna and return Dovan, we trek east towards Jhinu Natural Hot Spring and further lies Forest Camp, underlying the usual route of Mardi Himal trek. This combined trek takes around 20 days.
